Women's Track Holds Early Lead At OVC Meet

Men sit in third place following day one

OVC DAY ONE MEET

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Eastern Illinois women's track and field holds a small lead at the 2010 Ohio Valley Conference Championships while the men's squad enters Saturday's final day sitting in third place.

The women picked up three first place finishes on day one of the championships contested at the Wilma Rudolph Track at the Gentry Center on the campus of Tennessee State.

Megan Gingerich was a dual event winner as she placed first in the high jump winning a jump off over Amanda McCoy of Austin Peay with both competitors clearing 5'04.25”. Gingerich would also run a leg of the women's distance medley relay team that placed first with a time of 12:16.37. Erika Foltys, Bridget Sanchez and Erin O'Grady also comprised the DMR team.

In field events Kandace Arnold won the shot put as she hit an NCAA Indoor Provisional mark in the event winning with a toss of 50'6”. Jaimee Roy was a fourth place finisher in the women's long jump

The EIU women led after day one with 40 points. Southeast Missouri was second with 31 points followed by Tennessee Tech and Eastern Kentucky tied at third with 28 points.

On the men's side EIU picked up a first place finish in the distance medley relay with a winning time of 10:04.93. Wes Sheldon, Justin Stewart, Sean Wiggan and Graham Morris comprised the winning team.

Ian Winston was a second place finisher in the high jump at 6'6.25” while Donald Romero was fourth in the shot put at 47'6.50”.

Southeast Missouri held the day one men's lead with 68.5 points. Tennessee State was second with 34 points while EIU was third with 26.
