BRENTWOOD, Tenn.  -- After recently pacing the Eastern Illinois men's golf team to a third place finish at the WIU Invitational, Gino Parrodi has been tabbed the 'Male Golfer of the Week' as announced by the Ohio Valley Conference office on Wednesday.

A native of Queretaro, Mexico and Woodlands HS in Houston, Texas, the sophomore carded rounds of 72-74-75 to finish the three-round Harry Mussatto Invitational at 221 (+5) which placed him sixth in a field out 74 competitors.

“Very good honor for him as he's been one of the most steady players we'll had in quite some time,” said head coach Mike Moncel. “He consistently shoots around the par range, sometimes above and other times below. He's a good kid and has been a delight to have on the team."

"Although he's a big part of the team right now, we still expect even better things to come from him," Moncel said.  "He had a good summer last year so hopefully he'll keep improving as he goes. He's definitely a tournament player, so that kind of play really brings out the best in him.”

His play helped the Panthers to a third place team finish (out of 13 teams) in only its second competition of the spring season, marking the top finish of the year for the Eastern squad.

Through 19 rounds of play this year, Parrodi has earned a pair of top 10 finishes and owns a stroke average of 74.4, which ranks 10th in the OVC.

As a sophomore, Parrodi sports a career stroke average of 74.9 via 45 total rounds of golf, while nailing 3369 total strokes. He notched a career low round of 71 as a freshman, earning a spot on the end-of-season Ohio Valley Conference All-Newcomer squad.

The Panther men have two more regular-season meets prior to competing in the season-ending conference meet, including an upcoming meet versus several OVC foes at the Tennessee State Invitational on April 4-6 at the Kings Creek Golf Course in Springhill, Tenn.
