CHARLESTON, Ill. – Eastern Illinois baseball signee T.J. McManus was selected as an NJCAA First Team All-American and Rawlings Gold Glove winner this spring while helping lead his Parkland College team to the NJCAA Division II World Series.

McManus (Glenview/Glenbrook South) and Parkland teammate Darin Worman (Dietrich) were two of seven recruits to sign National Letters of Intent in November. They'll join EIU as juniors for the 2010-11 school year.

McManus batted .415 with 15 home runs this spring. He established new Parkland records with 27 doubles and 88 RBIs. The Rawlings Gold Glove award essentially recognized him as the top fielding first baseman in all of the NJCAA's Division II. McManus played at Ohio State in the spring of 2009.

Worman, a left-handed pitcher, was selected as the MVP of the Region 24 Tournament, May 21-24 in Springfield, Ill. He surrendered only two runs over 12 2/3 innings in the tourney, posting a win and two saves. He closed out the championship game victory against Heartland College with two scoreless innings of relief. McManus hit a game-tying home run in the seventh inning of the same game.

McManus (First Team) and Worman (Second Team) also represented Parkland on the All-Mid-West Athletic Conference teams.

The Cobras won the Region 24 Tournament thanks to six consecutive victories after losing their tournament opener. Parkland went 2-2 at the NJCAA Division II World Series in Enid, Okla., and finished the year with a 50-13 record.

Worman was also a member of Parkland's 2009 team that won the NJCAA DII World Series.

Fellow EIU signees Luke Bushur (Teutopolis) and Jacob Reese (Chatham-Glenwood) both helped lead their high school teams to IHSA state titles in June.
