Nov. 2009 Recruit Announcement

Adam Clark
CHARLESTON, Ill.
– Eastern Illinois baseball has added two more recruits for the upcoming 2010-11 school year, with head coach Jim Schmitz announcing that Adam Clark (Norwood, Ohio/Lincoln Trail CC) and Tyler Schweigert (Libertyville/Libertyville) have signed National Letters of Intent to join the Panthers.

Clark is a left-handed pitcher and Schweigert is a right-handed hitting infielder that can play second base, shortstop or third base.

In November 2009, Schmitz announced a 2011 recruiting class that featured seven signees – five high school standouts and two JUCO transfers from Parkland College in Champaign, Ill. Among that group, pitcher Ryan Hartman (Mount Zion) was selected in the 16th round of June's Major League Baseball First-Year Player Draft by the Chicago Cubs. He opted to sign with the Cubs and forego his collegiate eligibility.

Tyler Schweigert
Clark was an All-Region and All-Northern District performer in 2010 at Lincoln Trail College in Robinson, Ill. He was 9-1 with a 2.43 ERA and 63 strikeouts in 63 innings pitched. Clark joins Shawn Ferguson and Brent McNeil as current Panthers that transferred to EIU from Lincoln Trail.

Schweigert batted .447 with 20 extra-base hits and 24 stolen bases as a senior at Libertyville High School. He scored 45 runs and struck out only 12 times in 123 at-bats. As a junior, he compiled a .469 on-base percentage thanks to 41 hits and 19 walks. He was a high school teammate of current Panther Troy Barton.

“The addition of Tyler and Adam is key at this point in the summer," Schmitz said. "It was surprising that both were available. We're going to look to Adam to fill a void in the starting rotation after losing Josh [Mueller] and Mike [Recchia] to Minor League Baseball. We brought Tyler in because we moved Danny Rowe to the outfield, and Tyler can play three different infield positions.”
