CHARLESTON, Ill. - Eastern Illinois men's basketball will play its lone exhibition game of the season on Tuesday evening at 7:30 p.m. at Lantz Arena. The Panthers will face off against NAIA member Olivet Nazarene. EIU cancelled all weekend athletic events last Thursday morning following the passing of EIU women's basketball assistant coach Jackie Moore. One of the events cancelled was the EIU men's basketball game against St. Xavier originally set for 8 p.m. on Saturday evening. The Panther staff was able to schedule a new opponent as St. Xavier was not able to alter their schedule for this week. Tickets from Saturday's contest will be accepted for entrance into the game on Tuesday. The Panthers will open the regular season on Saturday on the road at Toledo at 6 p.m.
Coaches for other weekend events cancelled are currently working to possibly reschedule their missed events. As those events become rescheduled they will be released.
A memorial service for Coach Jackie Moore was held on Sunday afternoon at Lantz Arena. The women's basketball team will open the season on Friday at Ohio State as part of the Women's Preseason NIT. In lieu of flowers, donations towards the Jackie Moore Memorial Scholarship are being accepted by the athletic department. The athletic department announced on Sunday that the Jackie Moore Memorial Scholarship will be awarded to a rising junior on the women's basketball team each season.
