Sophomore Matt Borens was named to the Midwest Collegiate League All-Star Team

CHARLESTON, Ill. – A total of 15 Eastern Illinois baseball players are midway through their summer baseball league schedules. Below is an update on each player and their accomplishments so far this summer.
 
Matt Borens – Will County Crackerjacks (Midwest Collegiate League)
Borens was recently named to the Midwest Collegiate League All-Star Team after compiling a 4-0 record with a 2.16 ERA in six appearances. In five starts, he has allowed just 10 earned runs in 41.2 innings with 33 strikeouts to only 13 walks. The Crackerjacks are 19-11 on the year and rank second in the league's south division.
 
Scott Houdek – Grand Lake Mariners (Great Lakes League)
Houdek has made 12 appearances this summer with a 3.00 ERA, the third lowest ERA on the team. He has 11 strikeouts to only three walks in 12 innings of action with one save. The Mariners are 7-18 and in last place in the league standings.
 
Joe Greenfield – Lakeshore Chinooks (Northwoods League)
Greenfield has made nine appearances with four starts this summer. He has a 3.60 ERA and a 2-1 record in 30 innings of action. The Orland Park, Ill., native ranks second on the team in strikeouts with 26. Greenfield and the Chinooks have a 20-21 overall record this summer.
 
Dane Sauer – Rockford Foresters (Midwest Collegiate League)
Sauer has a .321 batting average (26-for-81) this summer in 22 games. He has added 12 RBI, 15 runs and two doubles for the Foresters who have an 8-24 overall record.
 
Tyler Schweigert – Niagara Power (New York Collegiate League)
Schweigert has a .300 batting average (24-for-80) to go along with 18 runs and 18 RBI. He has added four triples, three doubles and two home runs. Schweigert and the Power have a 14-15 overall record this summer.
 
Nathan Sopena – Crystal Lake Cardinals (Chicago Suburban League)
Sopena is hitting .293 (17-for-58) this summer with 14 runs, nine RBI and one double. Sopena and the Cardinals have a 7-11 overall record to rank third in the league's north division.
 
Caleb Howell – Quincy Gems (Prospect League)
Howell hit .353 (18-for-51) in 13 games for the Gems before taking the rest of the summer off to recover from an injury. He had six RBI, 12 runs, three doubles and four stolen bases.
 
Jacob Reese – Grand Lake Mariners (Great Lakes League)
Reese has a .259 batting average (15-for-58) with eight runs, five RBI and two doubles through 16 games. Reese and the Mariners are 7-18 this season.
 
Trent Whitcomb – Allegany County Nitros (New York Collegiate League)
Whitcomb is batting .241 (13-for-54) in 20 games this summer. He has added three doubles, four RBI and seven runs with the Nitros who are 13-16 overall.
 
Andrew Grahn – Quincy Gems (Prospect League)
Grahn has made two appearances (two starts) with the Gems with a 9.72 ERA and a 1-0 record in 8.1 innings of action. Grahn and the Gems are 21-16 this summer while currently ranking third in the league's west division.
 
Brant Valach – Convington Lumberjacks (Valley Baseball League)
Valach has a .225 batting average (18-for-80) in 26 games with two home runs, three doubles and 16 runs. Valach and the Lumberjacks are 12-19 this summer.
 
Nick Priessman – Cincinnati Steam (Great Lakes League)
Priessman is hitting .185 (12-for-65) in 16 games this summer. He has two home runs, four doubles and nine RBI. He has helped the Steam to a 16-8 record to rank second in the league standings.
 
John Devito – Crystal Lake Cardinals (Chicago Suburban League)
DeVito has played in nine games this summer with a .194 batting average (6-for-31). He has added three runs, two doubles and two RBI. DeVito and the Cardinals have a 7-11 overall record to rank third in the league's north division.
 
Christian Slazinik – Covington Lumberjacks (Valley Baseball League)
The returning left-handed pitcher has been shutdown for the duration of the summer.
 
George Kalousek – Elmira Pioneers (Perfect Game Collegiate League)
Kalousek posted a 0-1 record with an 8.10 ERA in six appearances for the Pioneers this summer. He threw six strikeouts in 6.2 innings of work before leaving the team to play in the Chicago Suburban League.
