CHARLESTON, Ill. – #Matt Scaliatine# from men’s swimming and #Kaylin Lorbert# from women’s soccer have been named the Eastern Illinois student-athletes of the month for October 2008. Each month during the school year one male and one female student-athlete are recognized for their outstanding performance in their sport.

Scaliatine, a sophomore from Lombard, Ill., has opened his season with a perfect 3-0 mark in the 200 meter breast stroke. He scored points in all three meets for EIU including a win over Summit League foe IUPUI to open the season. His best time this year in the 200 is 2:11.93 swam at Evansville on Oct. 25.

Lorbert, a sophomore goalkeeper from Wildwood, Mo., helped the Panthers finish out the Ohio Valley Conference season on a high note as she was the net minder in three straight shutouts. During that three match run, Lorbert had 315 scoreless minutes in goal as EIU defeated Morehead State in regulation, Tennessee Tech in double overtime and matched Austin Peay to a scoreless draw. Those seven points helped EIU finish fifth in the OVC race and qualify for the conference tournament.
