#Jake Christensen# of football and #Rachel Hamilton# of women’s soccer were named the Eastern Illinois student-athletes of the month for September 2009.  Each month during the school year one male and one female student-athlete are recognized for their outstanding performance in their sport.
 
Christensen, a graduate student quarterback from Lockport, Ill., has helped guide the Panthers to a 4-0 start to the season, the first for the program since the 1996 season. He was twice been named the Ohio Valley Conference Newcomer of the Week and once the OVC Offensive Player of the Week. He ranked 10th in the nation in pass efficiency for the month of September throwing for 796 yards and eight touchdowns on 68-of-101.
 
Hamilton, a senior midfielder from Springfield, Ill., has been the Panthers leading scorer through the opening month of the season. The Panthers are off to a 4-4-4 start on the year with Hamilton accounting for eight points this season. She has scored three goals and added two assists to date. The four wins in the opening month of the season are one win higher than the entire win total posted by the 2008 EIU women’s soccer team.
