The Eastern Illinois athletic department has named its male and female student-athlete of the month.  Winners for October were senior Ademola Adeniji from football and junior Carrie Riordan from women’s golf.  

Adeniji, a senior from Springfield, Ill., carried the bulk of the load for the Eastern Illinois football team during the month of October as he rushed for 619 yards for the month as Eastern Illinois went 3-1 and moved up to No. 21 in the FCS Coaches rankings. Adeniji had three games of more than 150 yards with a career-high 197 coming against Murray State. He averaged 154.8 yards for the month scoring six touchdowns.

Riordan, a junior from Spring Valley, Ill., had one of the most successful months ever for an EIU women’s golfer as she carded three Top 3 finishes in four tournaments played during the month of October. Riordan tied for second at the Butler Fall Invite and UMKC Tournament while posting a third place finish at the Austin Peay Intercollegiate. Riordan had six rounds in the 70’s with a low round of 72 at Butler.

Each month Eastern Illinois University athletics will recognize one male and one female athlete of the month based on their athletic performances in their respective sport for the previous month.
