Eastern Illinois basketball players Romain Martin and Maggie Kloak have been named the Eastern Illinois student-athletes of the month for December 2007. Each month during the school year one male and female student-athlete will be recognized for their outstanding performance in their sport.
Martin, a sophomore guard from Minneapolis, Minn., caught fire during the month of December scoring 23.2 points per game for the Panthers. He hit for more than 20 points on five occasions including a career-high 29 points at Morehead State. Martin hit 50 percent from the field and an incredible 51 percent from 3-point range. He also averaged 2 rebounds and 1.3 assists per game.
Kloak, a sophomore forward from Elwood Park, Ill., was instrumental in the Panthers posting a 5-0 record during the month of December. She averaged 12.4 points and 7.2 rebounds per game including her first career double-double against Tennessee Tech in which she scored EIU’s final nine points in regulation. Kloak scored a career-high 22 points at Morehead State. 48 of her 62 points for the month were scored in the second half of games as EIU opened OVC play at 4-0.
