Kane Wommack is in first season on head coach Kim Dameron’s Eastern Illinois staff.  Wommack serves as the Panthers defensive coordinator.  Wommack returned to the Ohio Valley Conference after previous stints as a position coach at Jacksonville State and UT Martin.

As the defensive coordinator at EIU, Wommack's defense ranked third in the OVC in scoring defense, total defense and fourth in the OVC with 23 turnovers gained.  EIU twice held opponents to less than 100 yards pass as they ranked 35th in the nation in pass efficiency defense.  EIU held two opponents to less than 100 yards rushing.  Four defensive players earned All-OVC honors with two players on the first team and two on the second team.

Prior to coming to EIU he spent two seasons as a defensive graduate assistant at Ole Miss.  He helped coach safeties as the Rebels defense ranked 36th in the nation in pass defense and 38th in total defense.  He is the son of Ole Miss defensive coordinator Dave Wommack.

Wommack was the defensive line coach at Jacksonville State in 2011 as the Gamecocks won a share of the Ohio Valley Conference Championship.  He spent the 2010 season as the quarterbacks coach at UT Martin.

He played fullback at Arkansas from 2005-06 as the Razorbacks won the SEC West Division title in 2006.  He transferred to Southern Mississippi finishing his career on a team that advanced to three straight bowl games.

Wommack earned his degree from Southern Miss in December 2009.  He began his coaching career at USM as a volunteer and student coach.

He and his wife Melissa have one child.
