Emily Wang enters her third year at EIU after back-to-back 14 win seasons in her first two years as the women's tennis head coach. Wang is 28-17 overall and 12-7 in OVC play throughout her two seasons at Eastern Illinois.
While at the helm of the women's tennis program, Wang has led the Panthers to two straight OVC Tournament appearances as the No. 4 seed. The Panther's two tournament appearances marked a record sixth straight season EIU has qualified for postseason play. EIU made it into the semi-finals both years eventually falling to the No. 1 seed.
Wang has coached Grace Summers and Kelly Iden to back-to-back All-OVC awards with Iden becoming only the second Panther in program history to earn three All-Conference honors during her career at EIU. Both Iden and Summers received First-Team and Second-Team awards during her two seasons as a coach.
She has coached two separate players to nearly perfect seasons as Summers finished the 2016 season 20-1 from the No. 3 spot which is second only to Geeta Dua for most wins in a season. In her second season as coach she helped freshman Emily Pugachevsky to a 14-2 overall singles record while going a perfect 8-0 in conference play.
Originally from Lawrence, Kansas Wang comes to Eastern Illinois from the Champaign Parks District where she has been a Dodds Tennis Center Senior Tennis Professional since August 2007.
While at the Dodds Tennis Center she was an instructor for adult and youth programs where she was able to travel and coach in various sectional and national youth tournaments.
She was the assistant women's tennis coach for Centennial High School for the 2013 season during which time she helped lead the team to a 10-5 overall record and a second place finish in the Illinois High School Association Sectionals.
Wang graduated from the University of Illinois in 2007 having played all four years on the varsity women's tennis team. She was named captain of the squad her senior year and saw regular playing time at the No. 1 spot in doubles play while splitting time between the No. 4-6 postions in singles.
A member of the United States Professional Tennis Association, she earned a certified professional status in 2015.
