CHARLESTON, Ill. – Eastern Illinois head football coach Bob Spoo has completed his 2007 coaching staff with addition of Bobby Babich as the Panthers new secondary coach. He will join the staff in mid-July as EIU opens fall camp on Saturday, August 4.
Babich comes to EIU after spending last year as a graduate assistant at Kent State University helping with the secondary for a Golden Flash team that went 6-6 overall, 5-3 in the Mid-American Conference.
Prior to embarking on his coaching career Babich was a four-year letterwinner at North Dakota State playing corner back. He was a two-time Academic All-Conference honoree as a junior and senior. During his senior year he led the Bison with three interceptions while making 39 tackles as NDSU finished third in the Great West Conference.
“We think Bobby (Babich) will make a great addition to our defensive staff,” said EIU defensive coordinator Roc Bellantoni. “He is an outstanding young coach who really impressed us with his knowledge and maturity during the interview process.”
Originally from Tulsa, Okla., Babich grew up in a football family. His father Bob was the head coach at North Dakota State from 1997-2002 and is now the defensive coordinator for the Chicago Bears.
