INDIANAPOLIS – The Eastern Illinois women's soccer goalkeeping duo of
Jenny Williams and
Kaylin Lorbert combined to make 10 saves but a Butler goal with less than five minutes remaining in regulation lifted the Bulldogs to a 1-0 victory in exhibition action Saturday afternoon at varsity Field.
Lorbert, a true freshman, took over in goal after halftime and stopped eight shots in 45 minutes. Angie Muir eventually scored the game-winner in the 86th minute with a blast from just outside the 18-yard box.
Twenty-one players saw action for EIU.
Kellie Floyd challenged the opposing goalkeeper with both of her shots but those attacks proved to be the lone shots on goal of the day for the Panthers. Butler enjoyed a 21-6 advantage in total shots.
Corner kicks were very plentiful in the second half, as the two teams combined for 13. Butler limited the 2006 Ohio Valley Conference leader in corners to just one first-half opportunity, however, en route to a 12-6 edge for the match.
The Panthers will conclude their preseason schedule Saturday Aug. 25 when they host Indianapolis's other Division I university, IUPUI, at 4 p.m.
