CHICAGO – Loyola used a first-half goal off a corner kick and an insurance score in the final minute of regulation to defeat Eastern Illinois women's soccer 2-0 Sunday afternoon at the Loyola Soccer Park.

The Panthers (3-4-1) were limited to just two shots on goals en route to suffering their second shutout loss of the year. Rachel Hamilton and Alexis Miller were the only EIU players to challenge Loyola goalkeeper Colleen Dougherty.

Kaylin Lorbert made four saves in net for Eastern. Meghan Ryon and Ashley Slota also played all 90 minutes in the game.

“Soccer can be a funny game because I felt like for the majority of the day we played pretty well and did things we wanted to, more so than Friday,” EIU head coach Tim Nowak said. “But Friday we ended up getting a result [a draw vs. Western Illinois] and today we didn't. Early in the second half we got a cross into Rachel and she just didn't strike the ball as well as she wanted to and their GK got a fingertip on it. And that was our best chance, so it was kind of a game of millimeters.”

Katie Heidenrich scored the game's first goal in the 31st minute on a header following one of Loyola's (4-5) seven corner kick opportunities on the day. Ashley Morawski later assured a Rambler victory by scoring with 36 seconds remaining in the contest.

The Panthers return to action Friday when they open Ohio Valley Conference play with a 3 p.m. (CDT) contest at Eastern Kentucky.
