Walters Earns AP All-America Honors

Senior named to AP second team

NEW YORK – Eastern Illinois senior defensive end Pierre Walters was named to the 2008 Associated Press FCS All-America team on Wednesday afternoon earning second team honors. This is Walters' second straight appearance on the AP team after being named a third team selection in 2007.

Walters finished the season with 48 tackles (18 solo, 30 assisted) while leading the team with 16.5 tackles for loss. He also added 4.5 sacks, five quarterback hurries, a forced fumble, fumble recovery and blocked field goal. The 6-5, 269 product from Forest Park, Ill., ended his career third on the EIU career tackles for loss chart with 42.5 while his 15.5 career sacks ranked 10th. Walters was a two-time first team All-Ohio Valley Conference selection.

He becomes the 30th EIU player to earn Associated Press FCS All-American honors and the 22nd under current head coach Bob Spoo. The Panthers finished the 2008 season with a 5-7 record and open the 2008 season on Sept. 3 against Illinois State.
