ISU CLASSIC SCHEDULE
CHARLESTON, Ill. – Eastern Illinois track and field will travel to the Hawkeye state this weekend to compete in the Iowa State Indoor Classic at Lied Recreation Center on the Ames campus. This will be the second to last meet before EIU travels to Nashville to defend its 2007 OVC titles.
Friday's event schedule will start at 1:30 p.m. with the women's weight throw. Saturday's schedule kicks off at 9:25 a.m. with the 3,000 meter run for men and women. Heptathlon and pentathlon events will take place during the day Thursday and Friday morning.
Several women enter the weekend with top performances. Erin O'Grady placed second last weekend in the mile at the Wabash College Invite with a time of 5:08.68 which ranks fourth best in the OVC this season and 8th on the EIU career list. Hurdler Chandra Golden is current first on the OVC best list in the 60m hurdles at 8.80 while sprinters Violet Nwordu and Shawana Smith are second and third this season on the OVC's 60m dash.
In field events Jenna Uhe holds the OVC's top mark in the triple jump at 39'01.25” while sophomore Kandace Arnold ranks third in the OVC in both the shot put and weight throw. Arnold has a season best mark of 54'10.25” in the weight throw while her best effort in the shot put was 45'07.75”.
On the men's side senior jumper Obe Eruteya currently owns two OVC season best marks in the high jump and triple jump. Eruteya's top mark in the high jump this season was 6'08.75” while his triple jump mark this year is 49'06.50”.
In men's running events Jason Springer and Chris Wesson currently rank first and second in the men's 800m on the OVC chart. Springer's time was 1:5374 while Wesson posted a time of 1:54.22.
