NATCHITOCHES, La. – In a 15-7 loss at Northwestern State Saturday evening, Eastern Illinois baseball committed four its six errors in the contest in the Demons' seven-run first inning.

The Panthers (0-5) never recovered from the big inning. Northwestern State (4-3) already led 15-0 before EIU finally got on the board with a single tally in the seventh followed by a six-run eighth.

Ryan Lindquist, Cameron Strang, Curt Restko, Kyle Wilson and Neil Wright all singled and scored during the big rally. Bart Thyer, meanwhile, knocked in a pair of runs with his first collegiate hit. Drake Chillman also collected his first RBI with a sacrifice fly.

Northwestern State sent 13 batters to the plate in the first inning. Tristan Facer was charged with a pair of errors at first base, Zach Skidmore committed a miscue at the hot corner and starting pitcher Josh Mueller was also charged with a throwing error while trying to cut down the lead runner at third on an early sacrifice bunt.

Tyler Kehrer pitched well in relief, allowing just one run over 3 2/3 innings while striking out five. Brian Morrell, meanwhile, bounced back with two innings of scoreless relief to finish up the contest.

The series finale is slated for 1 p.m. first pitch. Freshman right-hander Mike Hoekstra starts for EIU.
