Wittke To Return On July 1

CHARLESTON, Ill. – Eastern Illinois head football coach Bob Spoo has announced that Roy Wittke will return to the Eastern Illinois football staff on July 1 to serve as the Panthers offensive coordinator/quarterbacks coach.
 
Wittke is best known for helping to develop current Dallas Cowboys signal caller Tony Romo as the Panthers offensive coordinator from 1990-2002.  During that time frame EIU made five FCS playoff appearances capped by Romo earning the 2002 Walter Payton Award.
 
Following the 2002 season, Wittke worked as the offensive coordinator at the University of Arkansas from 2003-05 and the one season at both Arizona State University (2006) and Northern Illinois University (2007).  He has also had stints at his alma mater Wisconsin Eau-Claire (1979-81), Montana State University (1982-84) and Central Missouri State (1985-89).
 
While at Eastern Illinois, Wittke coached 14 players who earned offensive All-American honors and numerous All-Conference selections in both the Ohio Valley Conference and Gateway Football Conference.  Three of his offensive units rank among the top fie at EIU for total offense and scoring in a season.
 
Wittke is a native of Racine, Wis., and a 1982 graduate of Wisconsin Eau-Claire
