CHARLESTON, Ill. – Samford scored the game's only run in the second inning as the Bulldogs shutout Eastern Illinois to win the final game of a weekend Ohio Valley Conference series.
Samford won 1-0 to improve to 13-22, 5-9 in the OVC. Eastern Illinois dropped to 12-16, 7-4 in the OVC but did manage to win the three game series after sweeping Saturday's doubleheader at Williams Field.
Amanda Barrs opened the second for the Bulldogs with a double to left center. She moved to third and scored on an infield error as Katie England hit a hot shot to the shortstop. The game's only run was unearned after EIU starter Karyn Mackie pitched out of the jam.
Mackie was the tough luck loser falling to 6-7. Barrs picked up the win for Samford with four innings of one hit softball, improving to 3-6.
