CHARLESTON, Ill. – For his great clutch hitting and nine RBIs in nine at-bats performance in Eastern Illinois baseball's series sweep last weekend, Richie Derbak has been named the Heartland Region Hitter of the Week by CollegeBaseballHub.com.

Based in Saint Albans, W.V., CollegeBaseballHub.com covers collegiate baseball online with a weekly poll, features, columns and Hitters and Pitchers of the Week for four different regions.

All of Derbak's production last week came in the Ohio Valley Conference series sweep of Tennessee-Martin, a fact the helped his candidacy for selection CBH's Pat Paxton said. The Web site leans towards recognizing players that come through big in weekend series, Paxton added.

Derbak missed both of EIU's midweek games last week due to blister on his throwing hand. But he returned to the line-up in a big way. After going 0-for-15 during the last week of March, the sophomore posted a 6-for-9 showing against the Skyhawks. He hit his first career home run and collected a personal-best four RBIs in the series finale. Derbak hit safely, scored a run and recorded multiple RBIs in all three games of the series. He was also 4-for-4 with runners in scoring position.

Derbak currently leads the team in RBIs (23) thanks to a .421 batting average with runners in scoring position. He has collected 14 of those RBIs with two outs in an inning.

Derbak and the Panthers return to action Wednesday for a 3 p.m. midweek home game against Indiana State.
