UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – Two of the longest tenured active coaches at NCAA Division I schools met on Saturday afternoon with Penn State coached by Joe Paterno picking up a 52-3 win over Eastern Illinois coached by Bob Spoo.

Paterno has been the head coach at Penn State since 1966 to lead the active list while Spoo is fifth on that list having served at Eastern Illinois since 1987. The Nittany Lions entered the game ranked No. 12 in the FBS ranks while the Panthers were ranked No. 25 in the FCS ranks this week. Penn State improved to 5-1 while EIU fell to 4-2.

Penn State quickly built a 10-0 first quarter lead as Daryll Clark plunged in from one yard out and Collin Wagner tacked on a 25-yard field goal. EIU had a chance to trim the lead to 10-3 but Austin Signor's 46 yard field goal attempt sailed wide right.

The Nittany Lions put the game away on the next drive scoring on a Clark 2-yard pass to Brett Brackett covering 71 yards in just six plays. PSU would add two more scores with Clark hitting Chaz Powell and Derek Moye. EIU had a chance to get on the board driving to the nine yard line with 18 seconds to play but Ollie Ogbu forced a Jake Christensen fumble that Navorro Brown scooped up and raced 91 yards to give Penn State a 38-0 half time lead.

EIU would finally get on the scoreboard on their first drive of the third quarter as Signor hit from 43-yards out. The score extended EIU's consecutive games streak with a score to 72 games.

EIU finished with 206 yards of total offense in the game with Mon Williams rushing for 64 yards. Cory Leman was the leading tackler with eight tackles.

The Panthers return to FCS action next week hosting Tennessee Tech for the EIU homecoming game at 1:30 p.m. at O'Brien Field. Tickets are available at (217) 581-2106 or online at www.eiupanthers.com
