Panther Track Posts Top US Times

Several EIU athletes among those ranked in Top 100

CHARLESTON, Ill. – With the indoor track season set to begin on Friday evening for the Eastern Illinois men's and women's track programs, the Panthers also ended the 2009 season with some marks that ranked among the best in the United States and World as compiled by USA Track and Field and the International Association of Athletics Federations.

Returning sophomore Zye Boey produced some of the best marks as he ranked 25th in the USA in the 100m dash with a time of 10.20. That mark also landed him tied for 79th in the world. Boey was also impressive in the indoor 60m dash and indoor 200m dash. Boey's time of 6.66 in the 60m dash ranked 35th in the USA and 73rd in the world. His 200m indoor time was even better as he ranked 17th in the USA and 18th in the world with a mark of 20.93.

Boey also was part of the EIU Sprint Medley Team which ranked 23rd in the USA with a time of 3:22.78. In that event he teamed with DeMarcus Brooks, Marcus Williams and Clint Coffey. EIU's 4x800 relay team also posted a top 30 national mark at 7:28.11 which ranked 29th in the USA. That relay team was comprised of Wes Sheldon, Jason Springer, Justin Helpingstine and Clint Coffey.

Senior David Holm posted a top time in the indoor 800m as his mark of 1:48.86 ranked first among Canadians and 70th in the world rankings. Holm completed his indoor eligibility last season but will have one more season of outdoor competition available.

Other competitors with EIU ties among the national rankings include current assistant coach JaRod Tobler and former middle distance running star Dan Strackeljahn. Tobler ranked 11th nationally and 57th in the world in the outdoor long jump with a top mark of 26'3.50”. His best indoor effort of 24'11.25” was tied for 28th in the USA. Strackeljahn competed in several open events with his mile time of 3:59.77 ranking 30th in the USA and 52nd in the world. His outdoor 1500m time of 3:42.67 was 44th best in the USA.
