CHARLESTON, Ill. - Jordan Kreke of baseball and Carrie Riordan of women's golf were named the Eastern Illinois student-athletes of the month for April 2009. Each month during the school year one male and one female student-athlete are recognized for their outstanding performance in their sport.

Kreke, a senior shortstop from Bartelso, Ill., was outstanding in April helping the Panthers earn their first national ranking in the NCAA Division I history of the program. Kreke hit .397 for the month with 20 RBI, 9 doubles and 5 home runs. He was also named to the Brooks Wallace Award Watch List which honors the nation's top shortstop.

Riordan, a senior from Spring Valley, Ill, posted the best individual performance by an EIU golfer since joining the Ohio Valley Conference. Riordan shot a three-round total of 230 to win the individual OVC title by three strokes as the Panthers finished fifth as a team. Earlier in the month, Riordan was a third place finisher at the Loyola-Chicago Tournament won by Eastern Illinois.
