Former Panthers Expected to Attend

CHARLESTON, Ill. – Eastern Illinois baseball's annual alumni weekend is set for this weekend, Sept. 26-27, at Meadowview Golf Course and Coaches Stadium, head coach Jim Schmitz has announced.

The Alumni Golf Classic will again be held at Meadowview GC in Mattoon, with the shotgun start slated for 1 p.m. Saturday. Lunch will be served before the event and a post-round dinner and raffle will be held at the course. An alumni social is for 9 p.m. at the newly-renovated Marty's in Charleston.

Sunday's events at Coaches Stadium include the alumni home run derby at 10:30 a.m. followed by the 2010 team taking on the alums at 11 a.m. The home run derby and game are open to the public.

Hole sponsorships at the golf outing are available for $100. Program supporters should contact coach Schmitz (217-581-2522 or jrschmitz@eiu.edu) about sponsoring a hole.

“The goal for this year's golf outing is 50 Hole Sponsors,” Schmitz said. “This is one of the main ways alumni and friends of EIU Baseball can support the program. Even if you cannot attend the event you can still be a contributor to the success of the event. The proceeds from this year's event are going towards building a clubhouse for the program.”

For more information about the weekend festivities contact Schmitz or assistant coach Skylar Meade (stmeade@eiu.edu or 217-581-7283).
