Football Hosts Murray State For Homecoming

Panthers looking to end seven game slide

THE GAME
Eastern Illinois hosts Murray State for the Panthers 93rd homecoming contest. EIU is coming off a 34-20 loss at Tennessee Tech as the Panthers fell to 0-7 on the season, 0-5 in the Ohio Valley Conference. EIU has won ten straight homecoming games including wins over Murray State in the 2004 and 2006 homecoming contest. 

Murray State enters the game with a 2-4 overall record, 1-2 in the OVC. The Racers put up 72 points in their last outing two weeks ago against Missouri State. Quarterback Casey Brockman was named the FCS National Offensive Player of the Week after throwing for 570 yards. 

The Racers enter the contest with the 5th ranked passing offense in the nation at 305 yards per game. The Panthers enter the contest with the 8th ranked passing defense allowing just 142 yards per game.

THE SERIES
This will mark the 26th meeting between Eastern Illinois and Murray State. The Panthers hold the all-time series lead 14-11 including seven straight wins in the series. The last Murray State win was in the final regular season game of the 2002 season in which the Racers knocked off EIU for the OVC title winning 37-35. Since joining the OVC, EIU has a 9-4 series lead. The teams also met in the 1986 FCS playoffs with EIU winning 28-21.
