CHARLESTON, Ill. – Sophomore Kristin Germann finished off a ball in front of the net in the opening two minutes of action on Friday afternoon as Eastern Illinois was able to make that early goal stand up during a 1-0 win over UT Martin at Lakeside Field.
EIU broke away down the field on an early counter attack as Ashley Streid sent the ball into the goal box on a cross. Sarah Rusk had the first attempt but her shot bounced off the far post landing right at Germann's feet. She quickly sent the ball back in for her third game winning goal of the season.
EIU goalkeeper Kaylin Lorbert posted her seventh shutout of the season as she turned away all three UT Martin shots on goal. Lauren MacKenzie had three saves for UT Martin following the Panthers early score.
With the win EIU improved to 6-8-4, 3-2-2 in the OVC with 11 points now scored in the race to make the OVC Tournament. The Panthers leaped over UT Martin in the OVC standings as the Skyhawks fell to 8-8-1, 3-4 in the OVC with 9 points.
The Panthers will host Murray State at 1 p.m. on Sunday with the game serving as Senior Day for EIU.
