EIU Secures OVC Tourney Berth With 0-0 Tie

EIU will play in 12th consecutive OVC Tourney

CHARLESTON, Ill. – Eastern Illinois women's soccer locked up a 12th consecutive berth in the Ohio Valley Conference with a 0-0 tie with Murray State on senior day Sunday afternoon at Lakeside Field. The OVC Tournament will take place Nov. 4-7 at Morehead, Ky.

In a game played with a 15-20 mph wind from the south both teams tried to play to an advantage with the wind to their back. Murray State took five shots in the first period with the wind while EIU took six shots with the wind in the second half. Both teams finished with 11 total shots, four shots on goal for each team.

Kaylin Lorbert posted her 14th career shut out for the Panthers making a diving save with five minutes left in the second overtime on a shot by Racers forward Jenell Cunningham. Sarah Rusk was credited with two shots on goal for the Panthers.

EIU honored five seniors following the game as Danielle Flynn, Kaitlin Sullivan, Lorbert and Rusk played their final home matches. Angela Ziemba, a former player who has served as the team's manager, was also honored.

EIU ends the regular season at 6-8-5, 3-2-3 in the OVC. Murray State was 4-11-4, 3-3-2 in the OVC.
