EIU Ends In Scoreless Draw With Morehead State

Panthers had two scoring chances by Ashley Streid

CHARLESTON, Ill. – Eastern Illinois had two scoring chances by Ashley Streid in the overtime period but the Panthers were turned away on both chances resulting in a 0-0 draw with Morehead State on Friday afternoon. EIU did pick up a point in the OVC standings improving to 1-2-1 in the OVC and 4-8-3 overall.

Both teams had a good scoring chance in the first period as Samantha Rall put a ball on net for EIU with just over 11 minutes remaining in the half while Morehead State had a good chance by Brittany Maclennan with just over six minutes left.

The goalkeepers for both teams were up to the task as Morehead State's Lily Meisner had seven saves and Eastern Illinois Kaylin Lorbert had five saves. Two of Meisner's saves came in the extra period while Lorbert's best save came on a diving stop of a shot by Erin Adams midway through the second period.

Streid finished with three of the Panthers seven shots on goal while Jillian Birchmeier had two of the Eagles five shots on goal.

EIU will return to action on Sunday afternoon at 1 p.m. against Eastern Kentucky. Morehead State (6-6-1, 3-0-1 OVC) will play at Southeast Missouri.
