Own Goal Ends EIU Women's Soccer Season

Panthers fall 2-1 in OVC Tournament semifinals

MOREHEAD, Ky. - Sarah Rusk's goal with five minutes remaining evened Eastern Illinois soccer match with Morehead State but an own goal just a minute later ended the Panthers season with a 2-1 loss in the Ohio Valley Conference Tournament semifinals.

Following a scoreless first half, EIU gave up a quick goal to start the second half as Sam Toepfer scored unassisted on a break away just 46 seconds into the second half.

Rusk was able to even the score at 1-1 with her goal in the 85th minute as the match appeared headed for overtime.

MSU pressured the ball deep in the EIU zone in the next minute of action and the Eagles scored on an EIU own goal in the 86th minute. The own goal was forced by Devan Jordan as she pressured the ball but did not have an actual shot.

The Eagles held a 17-7 shot advantage as Lily Meisner was solid in goal for MSU. Jessica Taldone played her second straight match in goal for EIU making five saves.

EIU finishes the season at 7-9-5. MSU improved to 12-6-1.
