COOKEVILLE, Tenn. - Sophomore
Reynae Hutchinson and junior
Alison Berens nailed 11 and 10 kills, respectively, as Eastern Illinois volleyball earned an Ohio Valley Conference road sweep (25-22, 25-20, 25-20) of Tennessee Tech on Saturday afternoon.
Hutchinson added 14 digs to notch her seventh kill-dig double-double of the season and 10th in her Panther career. The Mattoon native also led the squad with a .280 attack.
Senior setter
Chrissie Albers nabbed her third consecutive assist-dig double-double as she dished out 31 assists and upped 12 TTU attacks. She now has five such performances this season and 17 all-time.
Defensively, senior libero
Brittany Wallace led all players on the court with 15 digs, marking her eighth match with 15 or more digs and 39th time in a Panther uniform.
Redshirt-sophomore
Stephanie Arnold led the net defense with four blocks, including one solo stuff.
Junior serving and defensive specialist
Kat Gosewisch once again led all Panthers at the service line as she nailed two aces in the sweep.
Junior
Emily Franklin also tallied double-digit dig numbers with 10 of her own as the Panthers led the host squad in several stat categories, including total digs.
Overall, EIU out-paced the Golden Eagles (3-18/2-9) in kills (41 to 31), attack (.180 to .142), assists (38 to 29), aces (six to two), digs (56 to 38), and points (53.0 to 39.0). TTU did tie the Panthers for total blocks with six apiece.
Eastern limited the TTU attack to single-digit dig totals, as Kelsey Gray led all Golden Eagles with nine put-aways, while Ellen Conti added eight.
The win ups the Panther lead over TTU in the all-time Division I series to 21-14 overall. In addition, the three-set win marks the first sweep of an opponent this season since late August.
The Panthers return to the court this coming Monday (Oct. 17) evening, hosting instate rival Illinois-Chicago in a non-conference contest, with first serve set for 6 p.m.
