Morgan Lifts EIU to First Road Win at UT Martin

MARTIN, Tenn. –
Junior Jessie Morgan scored her first goal of the season to give the Eastern Illinois women's soccer team its first road win of the year over UT Martin, 1-0, on Sunday afternoon. The Panthers improve to 3-1 in Ohio Valley Conference play.
 
Morgan connected on the only goal of the match in the 75th minute from just outside the front of the net off a pass from the right by Ashley Streid. The game-winning goal was the first of Morgan's EIU career.
 
Despite being outshot 29-6 on the day, the Panthers (4-7-2, 3-1 OVC) were able to get four shots on goal and net the only goal of the match. The Skyhawks (7-4-2, 2-1-1 OVC) took six corner kicks to EIU's zero corner kicks. EIU committed six more fouls (8-2) in the contest.
 
Coming into Sunday's match, the Skyhawks led the conference in shots while ranking second in goals. EIU's defense was able to hold UT Martin scoreless for the first time this season.
 
EIU's Jessica Taldone made 14 saves for the second consecutive match to post her fourth shutout of the season. The Crystal Lake, Ill., currently has a 0.33 goals against average in conference matches with 29 saves.
 
Junior Kristin Germann led the Panther attack with two shots (one shot on goal) while Morgan, Streid and Brenna Vogel all added one shot on goal.
 
Rosaelia Loza led UT Martin with six shots, including four on goal. Lauren Mackenzie and Mariah Klenke split time in goal for the Skyhawks. Mackenzie made three saves and allowed one goal in 75 minutes of action while Klenke did not allow any goals or make a save in the final 15 minutes.
 
The Panthers enjoy a week off before returning to OVC action at home on Oct. 14-16 against Eastern Kentucky and defending conference champions Morehead State. EIU faces Eastern Kentucky on Friday, Oct. 14 and Morehead State on Sunday, Oct. 16.
