Panthers Fall to Cougars on Senior Day

EIU recognized its five seniors after the conclusion of the match

CHARLESTON
, Ill. SIU Edwardsville held onto an early goal to defeat the Eastern Illinois women's soccer team, 1-0, on Sunday afternoon at Lakeside Field. The match served as senior day for EIU's five seniors.
 
The Cougars (6-9-1, 4-5 OVC) scored the lone goal of the match in the 21st minute when Meagan Iffrig tallied her fourth goal of the season. The sophomore forward found the back of the net from five yards out off a throw in from the right side by teammate Hope Jones.
 
The Panthers (5-11-2, 4-5 OVC) took three fewer shots (16-13) than the Cougars in the match, but was able to take two more shots on goal (6-4). SIU Edwardsville took four more corner kicks (5-1) and committed one more foul (5-4).
 
Junior Kristin Germann led the Panther attach with five shots (one on goal) while freshman Meagan Radloff added three shots (two on goal). Michelle Auer paced the Cougars with five shots.
 
Jessica Taldone took the loss between the pipes for EIU, making three saves and allowing one goal. Claire Lovercheck made six saves in goal for SIU Edwardsville while posting her fourth shutout of the season.
 
EIU returns to action at the OVC Tournament as the No. 6 seed on Nov. 3-6 in Cape Girardeau, Mo. The Panthers face No. 3 UT Martin in the quarterfinals at 4 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 3.
