Skyhawks End Panthers Season in OVC Tournament

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo –
The Eastern Illinois women's soccer team was defeated by UT Martin, 2-1, in the Ohio Valley Conference Tournament on Thursday evening at Houck Stadium.  
 
Tied a one in the 79th minute, UT Martin's Rosaelia Loza netted her ninth goal of the season on ball played through the middle from Hannah McCowen to give the Skyhawks a 2-1 advantage.
 
The Panthers got on the scoreboard first in the 38th minute when senior defender Sam Balek scored the first goal of her career on a header played from a corner kick by classmate Ashley Eck. EIU took a 1-0 lead into the half.
 
UT Martin's Brooke Robertson tied the match in the 52nd minute off a deflection in front of the goal off a mishandled ball by EIU goalkeeper Jessica Taldone on Skyhawk cross from the right.
 
The Skyhawks took 14 more shots (19-5) in the match, including a 7-4 advantage in shots on goal. UT Martin also took two more corner kicks (6-4) and committed five more fouls (11-6).
 
Balek paced the Panther attack with two shots on goal while Ashley Streid and Meagan Radloff both added a shot on goal. Loza led the Skyhawks with five shots (four on goal).
 
Taldone took the loss in goal for EIU, making five saves and allowing two goals. Mariah Klenke made three saves between the pipes for UT Martin.
 
EIU finished the 2011 season with a 5-12-2 overall record.
