OVC RELEASE

BRENTWOOD, Tenn. – Eastern Illinois placed 32 student-athletes on the Ohio Valley Conference Medal of Honor list which was released by the conference office on Tuesday. The 32 student-athletes is the highest number of Medal of Honor winners by the school since joining the OVC in 1996-97. Student-athletes earn OVC Medal of Honor recognition by posting a 4.00 GPA for the most recent academic year.

In addition to the 32 Medal of Honor winners, EIU also placed 140 student-athletes on the OVC Commissioner's Honor Roll which recognizes student-athletes with a 3.25 or higher GPA. A grand total of 164 athletes from the eleven OVC schools earned OVC Medal of Honor recognition with EIU posting the highest total (32), accounting for 19 percent of the total honorees. The 140 Panther student-athletes on the OVC Commissioner's Honor Roll was also the highest total among OVC schools representing just over 13 percent of the 1,039 OVC athletes that earned that distinction.

Morehead State earned the 2010-11 OVC Institutional Academic Achievement Award by having the greatest percentage of its student-athletes earn a 3.25 or higher. The OVC also announced recipients of the 16 OVC Team Academic Achievement Awards which are presented annually to the team with the greatest percentage of its student-athletes at a 3.25 or higher GPA in that sport.
