COLUMBIA, Mo. – The Eastern Illinois women's soccer team dropped a 4-1 contest at Missouri on Sunday evening at the Audrey J. Walton Soccer Field.
“It was exciting to see our effort tonight and how we matched Missouri's intensity,” said Eastern Illinois head coach Summer Perala. “The match could have finished 2-1, but we missed an easy save on their third goal and had a miss communication on their final goal.”
Missouri's Alyssa Diggs found the back of the net in the seventh minute to give the Tigers an early 1-0 advantage they would take into halftime.
The Tigers added three more goals in the second half before EIU's
Kristin Germann scored her first goal of the season in the 82nd minute. The junior forward found the ball off a scramble in the box and knocked the ball in near post, making the score 4-1.
Freshmen
Jade Schwarting took two shots on goal for EIU while
Ashley Streid took two shots.
Jessie Morgan also recorded a shot in the contest.
Missouri took 22 more shots (28-6) than EIU and took one more corner kick (5-4). The Tigers committed 11 fouls in the contest to the Panthers five.
Jessica Taldone made 12 saves between the pipes and allowed three goals in 70 minutes for the Panthers while
Brittany O'Dell made two saves in the closing 20 minutes.
Diggs paced the Tiger attack with six shots (five on goal) while Kelsey Blincow and Abi Raymer both recorded five shots. Missouri goalkeepers McKenzie Sauerwein and Caroline Stanley split time in goal and each made a save.
The Panthers return to action at Belmont on Aug. 26.
