CHARLESTON, Ill. – Valparaiso University connected on two first half goals to defeat the Eastern Illinois women's soccer team, 2-0, on Sunday afternoon at Lakeside Field. EIU drops to 1-5-1 on the year with the loss.
The Crusaders (3-3-1) netted their first goal in the 24th minute when Mikki Nuccio beat EIU's goalkeeper to a ball played on the right side of the field and knocked the shot into the back of the net from 10-yards out. Valpo added its second goal two minutes later in the 26th minute when Rachel Hoaglin scored her third goal of the season, heading the ball between the pipes off a cross from the left from Luisa Desario.
Valpo took five more shots (15-10) than the Panthers and recorded one more corner kick (7-6) in the match. The Crusaders committed four more fouls than EIU (7-3).
Sam Balek led the Panther attack with three shots in the match while
Kristin Germann posted two shots on goal. Desario led the Crusaders with five shots, including two on goal.
Jessica Taldone took the loss in goal for EIU, making two saves in 90 minutes of action. Kristen Manski made three saves and posted her first shutout of the year for Valpo.
The Panthers return to action at Northern Illinois on Sept. 13 at 4 p.m.
