CHARLESTON, Ill. – Eastern Illinois women's soccer blanked Tennessee Tech, 2-0, at home on Friday afternoon in the Ohio Valley Conference opener for both squads.
The EIU duo of sophomore
Brenna Vogel and senior
Ashley Eck each found the back of the net in both halves of play, respectively, as the Panthers improved to 2-6-2 on the season.
At the 33rd minute of the first half, Vogel recorded her first career goal as her 25-yard shot carried over the head of the TTU goalkeeper to help EIU end a two-game drought without a goal.
Eck, meanwhile, took a feed from both junior
Kristin Germann and newcomer
Jade Schwarting at the right side of the TTU goal in the early second period. She then quickly blasted a shot which landed deep into the left-corner of TTU's goal at the 59th minute.
The score marked the third goal for Eck in a Panther uniform and first of the season for the senior.
The assist by Germann was the second of the season, while Schwarting earned her first of the year. Germann also led all players with two shots-on-goal.
Eastern held a significant advantage in total shots via a 17-9 mark over the Golden Eagles, including a 7-3 on-goal lead. The Panthers recorded eight total shots in the first period and nine in the second.
The Panthers also enjoyed a 7-4 lead in total corner kicks while TTU committed eight fouls, while EIU ended up with seven.
EIU's
Brittany O'Dell earned her first win of the year as starting goalkeeper to improve to 1-1 overall as the sophomore finished with three saves.
TTU goalie Becca Toler fell to 3-6 overall with the loss, but was still able to record five saves out of the seven total shots-on-goal by the Panthers.
EIU improves to 14-3-4 all-time against the Golden Eagles (3-7-1/0-1 OVC). The Panthers also move to 7-4-2 in Ohio Valley Conference openers.
Meanwhile, EIU coach Summer Perala earned her first-ever victory over TTU as the Panther skipper to improve to 1-1-2 all-time versus the Golden Eagles.
The Panthers return to action on Sunday, Sept. 25, when they play host to league rival Jacksonville State. The match is set to begin at noon at Lakeside Field.
