CHARLESTON, Ill. –
For the second straight game, Eastern Illinois women's soccer earned a 2-0 Ohio Valley Conference shutout as the Panthers defeated visiting Jacksonville State on Sunday afternoon. The victory upped the Panther mark to 3-6-2 overall and a perfect 2-0 start to open league action.

Following a scoreless first period, freshman Brooke Sill earned her first career goal in a Panther uniform as she took a nice feed from junior Jessie Morgan and buried the shot with less than three minutes into second half play.

The key play began as Morgan battled JSU goalkeeper Katelyn Geedings right in front of the net, as Morgan quickly kicked it out to Sill, situated just to the left of the JSU goal. Sill took advantage, as the Gamecock keeper was suddenly out of the play and sliding on the ground, and easily scored into a nearly empty JSU net.

The Panthers then earned a security goal as a JSU header attempt from Emily Bielaga inadvertently dropped into the Gamecock's own goal at the 78th minute, accounting for the final score of the game.

That own goal marks the second time this season that Eastern has benefited from an opponent's scoring miscue, as the Panthers defeated arch-rival Western Illinois in such a fashion earlier this year.

Sill tied senior Ashley Eck and junior Kristin Germann with four shots in the game while Sill led all Panthers with three shots on goal. Fellow freshman Megan Radloff followed closely by connecting on three shots.

EIU completely dominated the attack game as the home squad enjoyed a sizeable 23-5 shot advantage, which included an 11-1 shots on goal tally. Eastern notched 11 shots in the first period and 12 in the final frame.

The Panthers also edged JSU in total corner kicks at four-to-two, while the Gamecocks doubled EIU in total fouls at 12-to-six. However, Eastern was called for being offsides three times as compared to zero for JSU.

EIU sophomore goalkeeper Jessica Taldone improved to 2-5-2 overall with the win, as JSU's Katelyn Geddings fell to 1-6 despite earning nine saves.

With the loss, the Gamecocks fall to 2-10 overall and an even 1-1 in early conference action.

Panthers will return to action this coming Friday (Sept. 30), traveling to league rival Southeast Missouri for a 6:30 p.m. contest, prior to heading to UT Martin for a 1 p.m. matchup on Sunday (Oct. 2).
