CHARLESTON, Ill. – Former Eastern Illinois baseball player Jordan Kreke has signed a contract to play within the Houston Astros organization.
“I am extremely pumped up to get another opportunity to play,” said Kreke. “I am trying to get in the best shape I can be in and hopefully get my swing back.”
The former Panther standout had previously signed to play with the Traverse City Beach Bums of the Frontier League in early January after being released by the Atlanta Braves organization.
The 2009 Ohio Valley Conference Player of the Year spent the 2011 season with the Double A Mississippi Braves where he hit .218 with 12 doubles and 33 RBI in 111 games. He previously played with the Myrtle Beach Pelicans (2010), Rome Braves (2010) and the Danville Braves (2009) after being selected in the 13th round of the 2009 MLB Draft.
Kreke will more than likely play for the Double A Corpus Christi Hooks, but opening day rosters will not officially be released until the conclusion of spring training.
