Hawkeyes Down Panthers in Season Opener

EIU returns to action at Purdue on Sunday, Aug. 19

IOWA CITY, Iowa –
The Panther women's soccer team fell at Iowa, 5-0, on Friday night in the squad's season opener at the Iowa Soccer Complex. EIU drops to 0-1 on the year.
 
The Hawkeyes scored their first goal in the fifth minute to take an early lead they would never relinquish. Cloe Lacasse scored the first of her two goals in the 34th minute to put Iowa up 2-0 heading into the half. Iowa eventually added three goals – two on penalty kicks – only 12 minutes into the second stanza to put the match out of reach.
 
EIU was outshot by 18 (22-4) in the match and did not record a shot on goal to the Hawkeyes 13 shots on goal. The Panthers committed nine more fouls (16-7) in the contest and took four fewer corner kicks (4-0).
 
Kristin Germann, Hannah Miller, Jessie Morgan and Meagan Radloff each had one shot for the Panthers. Lacasse led the Hawkeyes with two goals, an assist and seven shots (five on goal).
 
Jessica Taldone (0-1) took the loss in goal, allowing five goals and making eight saves in 90 minutes of action. Hannah Clark (1-0) posted the win between the pipes for Iowa, not surrendering a goal in 54 minutes.
 
The Panthers return to action at Purdue on Sunday, Aug. 19. The match is slated to begin at 1 p.m.
