CHARLESTON, Ill. – Eastern Illinois added five new members to its Athletic Hall of Fame on Saturday night. Entering the Hall of Fame for the Class of 2013 are former athletes Gaylord Burrows, Scott McGhee and Charlie Thomas; former athletic coach Bobbie Hilke and friend of athletics Jack Payan

Gaylord Burrows (Kampala, Uganda – Africa)
Gaylord Burrows was perhaps the best individual golfer in the history of EIU playing for the Panthers between 1969-73. He was a two-time All-American winning the NAIA National Championship in 1972. Burrows would go on to play professionally on the Asian Tour and later on the PGA Champions Senior Tour. He was the 1979 Indian Open Champion, considered one of the Asian Tour Major Tournaments. In 1977 he placed 26th in the British Open played at Turnberry in Scotland. He was tied for sixth following the opening round and tied for fourth following the third round.
Scott McGhee (Palos Heights, Ill./Sandburg HS)
Scott McGhee was a sure handed receiver for the Panthers football team during their final years as a Division II member from 1977-80. He earned third team All-American honors as a senior as the Panthers lost in the NCAA Division II National Championship game. During EIU's NCAA Championship run in 1978 he ranked second in NCAA Division II in pass receiving yards with 878. He currently ranks in the EIU career top ten for touchdown receptions (27) and career receiving yards (1,920). He ranks in the top ten in single season receiving yards and single season touchdown receptions. Following his EIU career he played two years in the Canadian Football League with the Toronto Argonauts and one season in the USFL with Houston.
Charlie Thomas (Washington, Ill./Washington HS)
Charlie Thomas was a catalyst at the guard position for the Panthers men's basketball team between 1975-78 as the school twice placed third in the nation in NCAA Division II National Tournament. Thomas currently ranks eighth on the EIU career list with 1,452 points while ranking in the top ten in single season points with 573. He was named to the 1978 NCAA Division II National All-Tournament Team and was a first team NABC All-District selection. Thomas holds the school record for consecutive free throws made at 54. In 2010 he was named one of the ten members of the EIU Men's Basketball All-Century team.
Bobbie Hilke (Athletic Coach)
Bobbie Hilke was the most successful women's basketball coach in school history as she coached the program in both the AIAW and NCAA Division I eras from 1980-93. Hilke posted 234 career wins with a career winning percentage of 57.8 percent. In 1981 she was nominated for the AIAW Coach of the Year Award directing the Panthers to a 25-10 record and appearance in the AIAW Division II National Elite Eight. As a Division I coach she lead the Panthers to their only NCAA Tournament appearance in 1988 as EIU won the Gateway Athletic Conference Tournament title before hosting Colorado in Lantz Arena for the NCAA first round contest. The 1988 team posted a 22-8 record and was recognized as one of four teams of distinction during EIU's recent Celebration of Women's Athletics.
Jack Payan (Friend of Athletics)
Jack Payan will be inducted as a friend of athletics following his long support of both the University and its Intercollegiate Athletic programs. Payan is a 1952 graduate who competed in both wrestling and track during his undergraduate days. He has served on the University Foundation Board and has been named an EIU Distinguished Alumnus. He was named to the Centennial 100 and along with his wife, endowed the Jack & Ann Payan Scholarship.
