Panthers Pick Up Elusive Road Win At APSU

CLARKSVILLE, Tenn.  – Eastern Illinois picked up its first Ohio Valley Conference road win of the season as the Panthers survived a last second shot attempt by Austin Peay to win 65-63 at the Dunn Center.

Tiasha Gray had two shots for Austin Peay in the final six seconds but both fell short.  Gray's first shot was rebounded by Sabina Oroszova who was fouled on the play.  Oroszova made 1-of-2 at the free throw line and Gray missed a 3-pointer as time expired.

Oroszova led EIU with 24 points as the Panthers improved to 11-13, 6-7 in the OVC.  Gray led APSU with 24 points as the Lady Govs dropped to 9-18, 6-8 in the OVC.  EIU plays at Belmont on Saturday at 2 p.m.

EIU trailed by as many as 10 points in the second half when Jennifer Nwokocha made a jumper at the 11:06 mark to put the Lady Govs up 50-40.

Morgan Palombizio cut into the lead with a 3-pointer on the next possession.  Palombizio was 3-of-3 from 3-point range as she finished with 11 points and eight rebounds.  She sank a pair of free throws with 3:14 to play that put EIU up 62-61.  The senior then pulled down a rebound on a missed EIU shot with 1:54 to play.

Oroszova had a jumper and free throw to account for EIU's final three points.  The Panthers shot 64 percent in the second half and 49 percent for the game.

Austin Peay led 36-30 at the half.  The Lady Govs shot 32 percent in the second half including 0-for-8 from 3-point range. 

EIU led by six points early in the game making 4-of-8 from 3-point range.  Oroszova's jumper at 11:56 gave the Panthers a 21-15 lead.  Tearra Banks and Gray helped APSU cut into that lead.  Banks finished with 11 points and 9 rebounds.

Jordyne Crunk added 14 points for EIU to round out the Panthers double figure scorers.
