MOREHEAD, Ky. – Morehead State closed out Saturday's game with a 10-4 run as they beat Eastern Illinois, 67-62, at Johnson Arena.
EIU fell to 7-12 overall, 4-2 in the OVC. Â The Panthers will play at UT Martin on Wednesday night at 6:30 p.m. Â MSU improved to 7-11 overall, 3-2 in the OVC.
Shakita Cox gave the Panthers a 58-57 lead with a pair of free throws with 2:31 to play as the two teams traded the lead ten times in the second half.
Almesha Jones answered for Morehead State with a 3-pointer as she scored eight of the final ten points for the Eagles with 26 for the game. Â Jones added a jumper at 1:39 and then four free throws. Â Eriel McKee scored the other basket for MSU in the final seconds. Â McKee had 11 points.
The Panthers trailed 31-28 at the half as both teams shot below 40 percent in the half. Â MSU took the first half lead with 7:38 to play on free throws by Jones. Â Shay Steele scored at the buzzer for MSU as she finished with 14 points.
Sabina Oroszova led the Panthers offense with 24 points hitting 8-of-15 from the floor and 3-of-5 from 3-point range. Â Cox added nine points. Â
The score remained within a five point in the final 30 seconds as MSU had four players in double figures. Maiki Viela  had 10 points as she joined Jones, Steele and McKee in double figures for the Eagles.
EIU finished the game 17-of-18 at the free throw line. Â
Arnisha Thomas was 6-of-6 with eight points.Â
