EIU Men Drop Home Game To Austin Peay

CHARLESTON, Ill. – Austin Peay held Eastern Illinois to 33 percent shooting in the second half as they knocked off the Panthers on Saturday afternoon at Lantz Arena.  APSU won 56-52.
 
EIU fell to 12-8, 6-2 in the OVC.  The Panthers will play at UT Martin on Thursday at 6:30 p.m.  APSU improved to 7-13 overall, 2-4 in the OVC.
 
Austin Peay opened the game with an 11-3 run as the Governors quickly jumped on top at the 15:13 mark with Khalil Davis and Ed Dyson combining for seven of the first 11 APSU points.
 
EIU gained some momentum on the defensive end of the floor as Keenen Anderson blocked a shot at the 15:01 mark and the Panthers ran off 14 straight points to lead 17-11 on a 3-pointer by Cornell Johnston.  The freshman guard hit two 3-pointers and a jumper in the run as he finished with 11 points for the game.
 
The Panthers would shoot 50 percent for the opening half as they led 29-20 at the half with Trae Anderson scoring the final five points of the half for EIU.  Anderson would lead all players with 22 points on the night hitting 10-of-17 from the floor. 
 
Trae Anderson and Luke Piotrowski scored two early baskets to open the second half as the Panthers extended the lead to 13 points with 18:39 to play.
 
Austin Peay then went on a 16-3 run over the next five minutes sparked by John Robinson with a pair of 3-pointers.  The Governors shot 56 percent from 3-point range in the second half as they tied the game at 36-36 with 13:40 to play. 
 
Khalil Davis 3-pointer with 7:03 to play pushed APSU's lead to 48-44 as Davis was one of four Governors to score in double figures.  Davis had 14 points. 
 
Trae Anderson would give EIU the lead with 3:27 to play before Davis tied it at 49-49 with 2:34 left in the game.  The Governors would score their final seven points at the free throw line as they had 25 attempts for the game.  Robinson had three of his 11 points at the foul line in the final ten seconds of the game.
 
Johnston would give the Panthers a chance with a 3-pointer in the final seconds before Robinson hit one of two to ice the game.
 
Chris Horton posted a double-double for APSU with 12 points, 12 rebounds.  Dyson had 14 points.
 
The Panthers played without the services of leading scorer Chris Olivier who sat out the game with an illness.
