MURRAY, Ky. – Eastern Illinois women's soccer 2015 season is winding down as the Panthers lost 4-0 on Sunday afternoon to Murray State in Ohio Valley Conference action. The Panthers will play their final regular season match this Thursday hosting SIU Edwardsville at 3 p.m. at Lakeside Field.
Murray State, which locked up the OVC regular season title on Friday, took a 1-0 lead in the first half as Rebecca Bjorkvall beat EIU goalkeeper
Maddie Lyon in the 20th minute. Bjorkvall softly knocked home a pass sent to her by Marissa Burroughs and Aaron Lankster.
EIU had two shots in the first period and added four more shots in the second half. Four of EIU's shots were on goal with
Elisabeth Held placing two on target.
Kathleen MacKinnon and
Kaci Schonert had the other two shots on goal for EIU.
Murray State goalkeeper Alex Steigerwald made all four saves playing 82 minutes in net. She gave way to Katie Gaskins for the final eight minutes.
EIU also made a change in goal in the second half after Lyon made two saves.
Liz Carmody played the final 35 minutes in net finishing with five saves.
Murray State added three insurance goals in the final 25 minutes of action. Taylor Stevens scored in the 65th minute scoring to the low left corner of the net. Emily Niehaus scored in the 79th minute chipping in a goal after an initial shot was blocked in the box. The final Racers goal was in the 85th minute by Harriet Withers as she beat the goalkeeper one-on-one.
