SPRINGFIELD, Mo - Eastern Illinois men's soccer team lost on the road Tuesday (Oct. 6) to Missouri State 3-0. The loss drops the Panthers to 2-7 overall while the Bears improve to 4-4-2.

It was a very defensive game as there were only four shots taken on goal all coming from Missouri State. Mike Novotny returned to the net for the Panthers earning one save while facing the least amount of shots the EIU defense has given up so far this season. 

The Panthers continued their season trend of strong defense in the first period of matches going into the locker room at halftime only down 1-0 following a goal from Missouri State's Phil Woods in the 24th minute. Only seven of the 28 goals given up this season have come in the first period of matches.

The two teams continued to battle in the second half until Missouri State broke the game open in the 58th minute after a goal from Tyler Swanner would extend the bears lead to 2-0. Jake Laird would add to Missouri State's lead after he found himself on the end of a cross sent into the box in the 70th minute resulting in a final score of 3-0.

EIU looks to bounce back in their next match this Saturday (Oct. 10) against conference opponents IPFW.
