CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. – Southeast Missouri shot 53 percent from 3-point range on Saturday afternoon as the Redhawks held off Eastern Illinois, 69-65, at the Show Me Center.
EIU dropped to 8-16 overall, 5-6 in the OVC. EIU will play at Austin Peay on Thursday night with a 7:30 p.m. tip. SEMO improved to 9-15, 2-9 in the OVC.
SEMO had two big second half runs after trailing EIU 29-23 at the half. The Redhawks open the second half with a 12-2 run with Erin Bollmann scoring the first five points. Bollmann led SEMO with 22 points as they held a 37-32 lead with 17:15 left in the game.
EIU would tie the game at 37-37 on a three point play by
Erica Brown only to see SEMO go on another big run taking a 51-39 lead with 12:05 left on a Bollmann lay-up.
Brown and
Sabina Oroszova would bring the Panthers back to within one point with Brown hitting a jumper with 7:16 left. Brown had 16 points and 10 rebounds. Oroszova also had a double-double with 26 points and 13 rebounds.
Grace Lennox gave EIU a 58-57 lead with 4:39 to play but momentum swung to SEMO as Brown fouled out with 3:48 to play and
Arnisha Thomas picked up her fifth foul on the next Redhawks possession.
Jasmine Robinson scored five of her ten second half points in the final 2:39 as the Redhawks tied the game at 58-58 outscoring the Panthers 11-7 in that final few minutes.
SEMO shot 65 percent from the floor in the second half and was 8-of-15 from 3-point range. Olivia Hackmann rounded out the double figure scorers with 13 points.
EIU shot 48 percent in the opening half taking a 29-23 lead at the break. The Panthers biggest lead was eight points with 7:26 to play in the opening half.
Lennox scored in double figures for the third straight game for EIU finishing with 11 points.
