• Cold weather and snow have adjusted the Eastern Illinois baseball schedule for the second straight weekend as this time the Panthers will have to change a home series.  This week's Ohio Valley Conference opener originally scheduled for Coaches Stadium in Charleston has been relocated to Clarksville, Tenn.  Due to snow in the middle of the week in Tennessee, the series will be played with a Sunday/Monday format.

• Transfer pitcher Matt Wivinis was solid in first start for Eastern Illinois working four innings and allowing one earned run during the Panthers 4-1 loss at Arkansas.  Wivinis made a relief appearance against Georgia during the Pantheres opening series this season.

• Catcher Jason Scholl has now reached base safely in three straight games as he leads the Panthers in hitting this season with a .286 average.  He has played in five of the Panthers six games with two starts behind the plate.

• Caleb Howell the nation's top returning hitting from last season has been held without a hit for the Panthers first six games.  Howell has drawn five walks to lead EIU in that category but has failed to get a hit or score a run this season.

• Adam Casson had two good relief appearances against Arkansas working one inning over two games without allowing a run.  Casson is the team leader with four relief appearances this season.

• Eastern Illinois is playing its 109th season of intercollegiate baseball as the Panthers head to Central Arkansas this weekend.  EIU has an all-time record of 1,604 wins and 1,447 losses.  Head coach Jimmy Schmitz is in his 21st season as the Panthers skipper.  Schmitz is the Panthers career leader in wins with 520.  He earned his 500th career win last season with a win over Michigan State.  His career record is 684-712-1 in 28 overall seasons. His EIU record is 520-551-1, which includes two trips to the NCAA Tournament in 1999 and 2008.
