• EIU relief pitcher Andy Fisher has been solid out of the bullpen for the Panthers this season.  The left-hander has now appeared in eight straight games without allowing a run including all three games against Murray State.  Fisher has worked 8.1 innings in those games with nine strikeouts and two walks.  

• Senior Brant Valach continues his chase of the EIU career top ten in two offensive categories and on Tuesday against Illinois State he landed in the top ten for another as Valach moved into a tie for 10th on the EIU career doubles list with 43.  Valach needs seven hits and seven RBI to move into the top ten for both of those categories.  For the season he leads the Panthers with a .306 average and 13 RBI.

• Senior Caleb Howell continues his chase for the top spot on the EIU career hits list.  Howell had three hits and drove home six runs on Tuesday against Illinois State.  Howell needs 16 hits to tie for the school record.  In addition Howell is closing on the EIU career top ten for runs scored.  He needs five more to join that list. 

• Freshman Joseph Duncan had a solid weekend at the plate hitting in the lead off spot.  Duncan was 6-of-13 with four runs scored as he hit .462 for the weekend.  Duncan continued to swing a hot bat during the Panthers midweek game with Illinois State going 4-for-6 at the plate.  Since moving to the lead-off spot, Duncan is hitting .526 with six runs scored.

• EIU's offense put together its best day of the season on Tuesday against Illinois State.  The Panthers had 22 hits and a season high 14 runs.  The middle of the EIU's line-up, the 3-4-5 hitters, drove home 11 runs going 8-for-18 at the plate.  The bottom of the Panthers order also contributed going 7-for-13 at the pate with six runs scored. 

• Freshman pitcher Luke Dietz had a solid effort in relief against Illinois State working 1.2 innings without allowing a hit.  It was his first appearance since March 14 at Memphis.

• Eastern Illinois is playing its 109th season of intercollegiate baseball as the Panthers head to Central Arkansas this weekend.  EIU has an all-time record of 1,604 wins and 1,461 losses.  Head coach Jimmy Schmitz is in his 21st season as the Panthers skipper.  Schmitz is the Panthers career leader in wins with 520.  He earned his 500th career win last season with a win over Michigan State.  His career record is 684-727-1 in 28 overall seasons. His EIU record is 520-566-1, which includes two trips to the NCAA Tournament in 1999 and 2008.
